CHAPTER 02 · SIGHTSEEING TOURS

Sightseeing tours,
at a pace you choose.

This guide explains what to check on sightseeing tours around Uluru, the Red Centre and other featured Australian destinations, from a slower sightseeing day to more active options. Our guides explain what to compare; verified tour pages, each naming its independent operator, are linked here as they are published.

First light

What a sightseeing tour
usually means

Sightseeing tours tend to centre on looking, listening and taking in the landscape rather than covering long distances on foot. Many involve shorter walks, lookouts and time in a vehicle between stops, with a guide from the operator explaining what you are seeing.

That said, tours with similar names can be quite different in practice. Two “Uluru sunset” tours might differ in itinerary, duration, inclusions and how you get to the meeting point. With options spread across many websites, those differences can be hard to see side by side. That is the gap we aim to close.

Read our guide on how to compare Australian tours for a practical way to line options up.

Midday

Slower pace or
more active day?

Neither is better. It depends on your energy, your time and what you want to remember.

SIGHTSEEING · PACE

A slower sightseeing day

Sightseeing · Good fit if you prefer shorter walks, time at lookouts and commentary along the way.

Sightseeing · Check how much of the day is spent travelling between stops, and how long you have at each one.

ADVENTURE · PACE

A more active option

Adventure · Good fit if you would rather spend more of the day walking or exploring on foot.

Adventure · Check the walking distances, terrain and fitness notes in the operator’s tour conditions.

Before a sightseeing day:
park entry, stop length, commentary

01 · Park entry. Check whether entry to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is included in the AUD price or paid separately, and whether any other compulsory charges apply.

02 · Time at each stop. Ask how long you have at each lookout or short walk, compared with the time spent in the vehicle between stops.

03 · Commentary. Check whether the operator’s guide gives commentary during the tour, and when it happens, for example at stops, on board or both.

04 · Inclusions and exclusions. Meals, water and pick-ups can differ between sightseeing tours, even when the names are similar.

Our guide to tour prices, inclusions and extra costs covers the costs in detail, and questions to ask before you book a tour covers the rest.

Independent local operators deliver every tour.

We explain how to compare sightseeing tours. The operator delivers the guiding, transport and activities. Each verified tour page names the operator, and prices, availability, itineraries, inclusions and departure arrangements are subject to that operator’s tour conditions. We can’t promise particular views, weather or wildlife on any tour.
